Thousands of Casino Patrons Line Up For Cheap Gas

Foxwoods Resort Casino gamblers waited for hours in line Tuesday for the chance to purchase gasoline at discount.

Foxwoods offered the promotion, where customers can earn a casino "wampum" point for every $90 they gamble at the casino.

The Promotion that ran Tuesday and Wednesday, Foxwoods exchanged a dollar worth of gas for every point that they earned. The customers can claim the gasoline via gas cards.

Customers agree that it was worth the wait with gas prices in Conn. averaging at $3.23 a gallon. The cards can be used at Exxon and Mobil stations.

Judy Kelly of Franklin, Mass., is one such customer, and she drove all the way to the casino just for the promotion. "This is great. Something everybody can use," Kelly said. "It's better than a T-shirt."

The casino had planned to give the cards out at the Wampum Rewards Store, where points are usually exchanged for merchandise. However, the crowds got so thick that three other sites were soon opened to handle people.

The casino had even planned to open a ballroom to handle the crown Wednesday. The casino said that the promotion will also be offered for two days in August. Management said Wednesday that the gas card promotion was an "overwhelming success."
